I wanted to go home the same way they got here—safe, with all the fingers, both good eyes. Nobody hurt, but absolutely the most important thing is, and I tell these kids, man, I love them. I do. That’s awesome for me, and I think they believe it. I think they realize it. They’re kind of afraid to say it back, but that’s all right. It’s just such a good thing to be around them and to try to instill the core values that we have here.

We want to make sure that they learn that they are safe, that we do care about them. If you have a problem, come talk to us. If you have a question, they all have my phone number when they leave here. If they have a question for the mentor they’re paired with when they leave, because we have a mentor program, they’ll go out there and be with someone else, which is another great thing to help build along the way. But they can always call me. I don’t care the time of day or night. I’ve had phone calls at my house on the weekends.

Somebody’s stressing, thinking maybe they’re not doing well enough or they just need to know that we’re here at Barts Electric. We care. I care. So I try to put a little bit of that in them, a little bit of Bart because farts.
