I’ve been around a long time. I’ve been with a small shop, and with it as it grew, and then I’ve also been on the corporate side with Union Pacific and things like that. One of the things that really drew me to Barts Electric, and what I noticed when I hired on a few months ago, is that very few employers actually practice what they preach. Barts Electric—you’ll see it on our website—we build people, and they truly do. In fact, just this morning on one of our team calls, we were going over mentors.

Every apprentice is assigned to a mentor or a journeyman, or a higher-level electrician to actually take them, and they’re on the same project. They mentor each apprentice coming up through the trade. I’ll tell you, most individuals in the trade learn best by hands-on, seeing it done. So having that mentor is an invaluable process. Barts Electric actually practicing what they preach is impressive. The other aspect is that they say it all the time, and they really do it—everybody’s got a seat at the table. They want input from everybody.

My first day here, I was brought into a meeting that didn’t necessarily have to do with the projects I was on, but they wanted my input on it. That really left an impression on me from the very get-go. They value input from the new hire all the way up to the management level. Those are the things that I would say are different.
