Today, we have 32 students coming in from high school, juniors, seniors, all who are enrolled in trade school. They’re all interested in becoming electricians, being involved in the trades. They’re doing a tour of our shop today to learn about what Barts Electric does, who we are, some of our values, our training program, opportunities that exist within Barts, just in general, to learn about Barts Electric.

I’d say there’s a couple of things. Number one, I think it’s really beneficial for people to understand what the trades are, what they do. I think it’s something that’s fallen off in years, and I’m glad to see that it’s picking back up again. So that’s the first thing, just get high school students aware of what it is that we do, how cool of a job this is, the opportunities that are out there. Number two, educate them on what Barts Electric could do for them. I’ve been with Barts for over 10 years, best decision I ever made, and I think it could be a great decision for them too. Educating them about who we are and why this might be a good fit for them.

It starts off with the fulfillment that you feel from seeing buildings get built. It’s one of the greatest feelings you could ever feel, getting your hands on stuff and building it, watching it get built up around you. And then, while that’s happening, you realize that your career is also being built up into something, especially with Bart, something that you maybe never thought was possible. I know my own career, I never pictured that I’d be able to do stuff like this, interact with high school students. So, I just think that I hope they can find the opportunity that I found here.
