Moreover, we’ll explore the company’s continuous recruitment efforts for electrical apprentices and experienced journeymen.

Empowering Through Training

Barts Electric emphasizes the importance of learning and growth, not just for personal development but as a strategy to elevate the entire team. The company encourages employees to embrace the idea of training their replacements. According to the company’s leadership, this practice is not just about passing on skills but also about propelling individuals to the next level in their careers.

For instance, in a recent video, team members discussed how training a replacement had a direct impact on their professional journey. As one team member put it, “If we train our replacement, it pushes us up to the next level.” This cycle of mentorship and skill transfer creates a culture of continuous improvement within the company.

Real-World Example

The video highlights a specific example where an experienced team member, Matt, handed over his responsibilities to James when he went on vacation. James, a newer team member, quickly picked up the tasks and seamlessly collaborated with his colleagues. This smooth transition not only showcased the effectiveness of the training process but also demonstrated the company’s commitment to providing opportunities for growth.

Fostering Career Advancement

Barts Electric recognizes that growth is a mutual process. They acknowledge that employees have aspirations and long-term goals within the company. In the video, one employee, Gabby, expresses her desire to become a project manager. The leadership at Barts Electric emphasizes that for employees like Gabby to move up the career ladder, they need exposure to different roles and responsibilities.

Encouraging Future Leaders

James, having successfully assumed additional responsibilities during Matt’s absence, is now encouraged to think about training his replacement. This forward-thinking approach ensures a continuous cycle of skill development and career progression within the company.

One of the things that we believe in as part of our mission to help build people is we want to help them accomplish as much as they possibly can. We want you to learn as much as you can, grow as much as you can, but one key to growing and building people is you’ve got to be willing to train your replacement, right? We say that all the time. What does that mean, Matt? Why do we train our replacement? Well, if we train our replacement, it pushes us up to the next level. The person below us, taking our position, moves us up to learn more, go higher in the hierarchy. How’s the training even going, Gabby? It’s been going well. James has done a really good job. He picked up on it just the first day that I was out here, and he started helping me when we were doing some site work.

So when I knew that I was going on vacation, I had a conversation with Madonna about who we thought would be a good fit to take over my position out here when I was gone. We both decided on James because he had picked it up fairly well, especially when both of us were out here. I’ve already been out here so many times, so I knew coordinates were in place from the GC.

Gabby, we know you want more opportunity. You’ve told us one of your goals is you eventually want to be a project manager in the company, right? So what if we only ever have Gabby as our Trimble operator, and we never do anything more than that? We can’t ever take you in, move you up to be a project manager, can we? This is great; I’m excited, James, for you. I’m excited for Gabby. The next deal here is James needs to be thinking about training his replacement. That’s not that far away. We all want to keep going and growing. Great job.
