It’s a good time to reflect on the year, but, you know, as far as safety goes, it shouldn’t be one week out of the year. It’s something that we strive for—we really work hard every week, every day to try to keep people safe. If we need any equipment, it’s never a question; just order the equipment. It’s not a matter of money; it’s not a matter of budget. If it makes it safer, if it makes it better, then buy it. We’ve done that the entire time I’ve been here. So, we spend an enormous amount of money on keeping our people safe, but it’s the right thing to do. It’s great as an industry that they’re doing it this week, but here at Barts Electric, it’s something we do every day.

Electricity is dangerous, but there are precautions that can be taken. There are lots of engineering processes, ways to minimize those risks. There’s a marriage between quality and safety. If it’s done right, it’s not dangerous. It’s a huge level of commitment throughout the company. We work on training our employees daily, and our level of training is much greater than anyone else I’ve encountered. We have people from other companies come and say, “Nobody else is doing anything even close to this; you guys are killing it.” There’s a lot of satisfaction that comes with those types of comments. Preparing someone to be a quality electrician that does it safely and goes home to their family and makes a good living is very rewarding.
