Barts Electric, a leading national electrical construction contractor, is dedicated to maintaining a streamlined and efficient work environment for its electricians. In this blog article, we delve into a recent initiative taken by one of our team members to enhance organization within our facilities. This information is not only valuable for our current electricians but also for those aspiring to join the field.

The Challenge

The need for better organization became apparent when the shelves at our facilities were disorganized, creating a cluttered mess. Recognizing the impact on productivity, one proactive team member took the initiative to address the issue head-on.

The Solution

To tackle the disarray, our team member introduced a systematic approach. Red bins were strategically placed to organize materials based on size and category, making it easier for everyone to locate what they needed. The result was a more open and accessible workspace, allowing for seamless access to materials.

Efficiency Gains

The implementation of organized shelving had an immediate positive impact on efficiency. The time spent searching for specific items was significantly reduced, saving precious hours for our electricians. Our team member emphasized the importance of this improvement by highlighting how, in the past, a simple request for a specific connector could take up to five minutes to fulfill. Now, with the organized system in place, locating items is a breeze.

Recognition and Support

Recognizing the value of this initiative, our team member documented the improvement on a card and placed it on the idea board provided by Barts Electric. The company, known for its commitment to fostering innovation and efficiency, responded promptly by providing the necessary resources. In just a week, the shelves were equipped with a multitude of red bins, optimizing the entire storage system.

Opportunities for Electricians

At Barts Electric, we are always on the lookout for dedicated individuals who share our passion for excellence. Whether you’re an experienced journeyman or an aspiring electrician, we welcome you to join our team. Our commitment to efficiency extends beyond the workspace, creating an environment that encourages collaboration and growth.

Barts Electric’s dedication to continuous improvement is exemplified by the proactive efforts of our team members. The recent initiative to enhance organization within our facilities showcases our commitment to efficiency and productivity. As we strive for excellence in electrical construction, we invite electricians and those aspiring to become electricians to join our dynamic team and be part of our ongoing success. Barts Electric is not just a workplace; it’s a community of professionals dedicated to shaping the future of electrical construction.

My idea was to organize all these shelves better because they were disorganized and just a clutter mess. What I did was I got all these red bins you see here and organized all the material by size and where they should go. When I did that, it opened up a lot of space and made everything a lot easier to grab for people who need them and to see, so we can use all the material that’s in these aisles.

I thought this was going to be a big deal, so I filled out a card and put it on the idea board that Bart put up for us. It took about a week for them to respond, and I got all of these red boxes.

What I could gather from working here as long as I have is the time that an organized shelving unit will save is many, many hours. People would go through here and say, “Hey, go find me just one half-inch set screw connector,” and it would take you like five minutes to find just one because you had no idea where they were at. Now it takes way less time, and it just improves the efficiency a lot.
